Can you edit joomla in dreamweaver

I don't consider myself a 'designer', certainly not in the professional sense I don't make money at it, though I have in the past - but I think I do work visually I used to be paste-up artist before the advent of DTP , so I like the notion of throwing elements onto a board! Of course, with DTP you can move such elements where you like. Another general observation about CMS - quite rightly and naturally, the emphasis is on content and content management, but I find that results in rather bland or at least generic looking web sites.

Just my opinion. So, ramble over - I will keep my eyes peeled for the right book Best wishes Durandal What is old is tainted, what is new is Post by lindant » Mon Oct 04, pm this is what i understand: you are comparing in terms of creating the look and ease of designing?

We are blessed with Joomla! Post by JCCarly » Wed Oct 06, pm Fair enough - can't disagree with your arguments wasn't and still aren't looking for an argument anyway!

It's a different idea so I'll give you that! Looking at things a different way I can't really stand Dreamweaver to be honest Post by Torettox84 » Fri Oct 22, pm That makes no sense. Post by mwenz » Fri Oct 22, pm Oh, I don't know. Dreamweaver is an incredibly easy program to use. The then Macromedia company's first forray into something like a dB driven site UltraDev was a disaster though.

Not that one couldn't make it work, but cludgy comes to mind. As always, I think the customer's goal is what should drive the framework. If content is not going to change very frequently, or the change is merely additions of static content, DW is an excellent means of getting paid quickly.

Gratis work or paid work doesn't matter. Use the latest versions. If it is a live site, update the bugger first. Work on a local copy of a live site. Get it right. Regardless of whether it is a dynamic content site or a relatively static one. Take care, Mike. Post by JoeJoomla » Sun Oct 24, pm It's been a long time since I posted in the forums and today while browsing this caught my attention. Of the clients that I have built Joomla! My observation has been that Dreamweaver users who try and apply their Dreamweaver concepts to Joomla!

You are far better off to approach Joomla! You need to 'unlearn' Dreamweaver because it will get in the way of your understanding Joomla!

It's only because I have a copy of Dreamweaver and it can be useful for some things but I will never build a site in Dreamweaver and haven't for a very long time. This brings me to a concept regarding modern technical literacy that I would like to propose to you: Up until the modern era of computers literacy meant that a person could read and write and to be illiterate meant that you could not. Nowadays in our western civilization most people attend school and learn to read and write at an early age.

Today I suggest to you that there are many people who struggle with illiteracy in a different way. Things move so fast today, software languages and tools are created that enhance our lives in a great way, and if you fall in love with your tool you will get stuck and become technically illiterate. So literacy to me today means the ability to learn something, and then unlearn it to be able to learn something else that supersedes what you previously knew and understood.

If you can't let go of Dreamweaver concepts you will struggle with Joomla. Dreamweaver will never be able to do what Joomla! Please Log in to join the conversation. I'm working with someone who is VERY comfortable with dreamweaver.

Open dreamweaver cs5, go to site setup and add you local server using and type in your information 6. Ok i get through all of that and i can "discover" the local server and edit it in "live view" What i WANT to do is edit the remote server's template from my local machine. I understand that you need to install xampp on your local machine to be able to execute the php at runtime.

But why can't i just "get" the remote joomla files, edit the files locally, then upload it back to the remote server I know we can access and edit the code from the remote server but i want to access the site in live view and access the page dynamically Re: Edit Joomla template from Dreamweaver CS5 Post by Webdongle » Wed Oct 05, pm But why can't i just "get" the remote joomla files, edit the files locally, then upload it back to the remote server You download the page from the remote server, edit it local, then upload it.

This can be inefficient at times. It will be better if you could look at the remote site in "live view" on dreamweaver CS5, go into design view, and edit it directly.

The problem is that when you "get" or download the entire remote site, your able to view the code but your not able to view it in "live view". Another problem is the xampp sql database will be different to what is on the remote server so you will have different content.

So what i really what is the exact same site to be on my local computer which includes: 1. The database: So the content and plugins are the same 2. Joomla files: So i can edit the template So could't i just 1. Backup the sql database on the remote server 2. Download all the same joomla files in dreamweaver 4. Then edit it and upload it to the remote server? But if you are using Ubuntu then to edit them directly you need to edit them in a folder outside of the localhost folders.

Then ftp them to localhost.
